“Meticulously crafted into 58 facets, a brilliant diamond echoes the precision the winemaker applies when blending wines. The finest detail is brought to light when combining these three cultivars in the right ratio. A wine true to its origin at the southern tip of continent, we trust you will enjoy this African gem.” - Cellar Master, Johann Fourie
Generous aromas of plum, cranberry and dark chocolate are balanced with inviting hints of floral and spice. The palate is smooth and captivating while firm tannins and a lingering aftertaste fulfil the promise of pure elegance and artistry.
With a name that celebrates the facets of a diamond. Reflecting the precision that both the diamond cutter and the winemaker apply to their craft, this wine is a dry but fruit driven red blend to be enjoyed now or within three years of the vintage. To get to a blend that was in perfect harmony and balance from start to finish, a wine that brings all the senses to life, we ended up using three different cultivars to achieve this result.
- Winemaking Notes
Each of the three cultivars was vinified and matured as separate parcels. Picking starts once optimum ripeness is achieved, this usually occurs between 13.5% - 14.5% potential alcohol. On arrival at the winery grapes are crushed, de-stemmed and cooled prior to being transferred to the fermentation vessel. Two days cold soaking at about 10°C is followed by fermentation on skins for 5-7 days. Close to the end of primary fermentation the wine is racked, skins pressed and transferred to French oak for maturation.
- Growing Conditions
Bestowed with all the privileges of the cool Walker Bay, precise balance steals the spotlight in this blend. Nudged by the Bot River Lagoon, with vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyards enjoy cool daytime temperatures that drop even further at night. A beneficial diurnal range aids in even ripening and complexity while maritime winds encourage healthy vines with minimal intervention.
